Savor the flavors of Sweden
More About Our Company
Different from many of the wineries along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, Hedman Vineyards is owned and operated by a couple who immigrated to The States. Owners Anders and Gerd Hedman arrived in Southern Illinois in 1994 after developing an interest in living and working abroad. A passion for wine and food, along with significant trade skills and a lot of determination, culminated in the creation of Hedman Vineyards!
It didn’t happen overnight though! After years of searching Southern Illinois for the right piece of property Anders and Gerd were able to acquire the property that is now Hedman Vineyards! Development began in the late 90’s, and since 2005 we’ve been serving travelers and locals alike.
We house our winery and café in a renovated barn that was originally built in the 1940’s. Back in those days the property and the barn were used to harvest peaches from these lands. Staying true to our local roots, we refer to our café as The Peach Barn Café, and even now you may be viewing our website at PeachBarn.com. Now, over 70 years later, we still grow peaches here to make our Peach Barn Wine and our Peach Dessert Wine.
But as you would guess, it’s not just peach wine that we make. With 10 acres of vineyards we are one of the larger grape-growers along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. As a member of the American Vintners Association we pride ourselves in our knowledge of wine and our wine region.
We also strive to keep a strong connection with home by offering many goods imported from Scandinavia. Lingonberries, candies, books and lots of other cultural gifts line our gift shop walls.
We encourage you to come learn more “About Us” in person. Anders and Gerd are on the grounds daily; working, cooking, and keeping the vines in line. But if you don’t catch them, don’t worry, we’ve got lots of other wonderful folks to entertain a conversation with during your visit to the wine trail! We enjoy providing a contemporary and culturally inclusive experience to all of our guests. In every sip of wine and every bite of food you will be able to savor the flavor of Sweden.
